Kids Helping Kids is an effort by young people in Alexandria to help young people in Alexandria. Founded in 2002, this non-profit group is made up of about a dozen kids ages 13-18. These children are the backbone of the organization, recruiting youth volunteers, spreading awareness of the event, gathering sponsors to donate supplies, and organizing the precise logistics of the event. Kids Helping Kids is a registered corporation in the state of Virginia and has a 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
Our History:
In the days following the tragedy of September 11th, many children in the United States set up lemonade stands to raise money for relief foundations. In Alexandria these lemonade stands served as an inspiration for Kids Helping Kids. Kids Helping Kids, Inc. is a non-profit organization created in 2002 by Alexandria kids Ainsley Morris and Joanna and Remy Kauffmann to raise money for children's charities in Alexandria and to help kids learn how to become involved as leaders in charitable activities. Since then, Kids Helping Kids has raised over 77,000 for the children of Alexandria. We raised this money through annual Lemonaide Days, on which children all over the city are organized to sell Lemonade, and through corporate sponsors and grants from the City of Alexandria. We supply the children with all the required materials, and they send us the proceeds at the end of the day. We have donated to numerous charitable organizations over the years, including the Alexandria Police Youth Camp, Network Preschool, Grandma Rita's Kids, Coats for Kids and The Campagna Center. So far, over 500 Alexandria kids have helped.
